Top key opinion leader should not be a victim of his/her own success. They are those who take responsibility for their actions. They are those who are able to say: “I did it!” and not blame others for their success. They are the ones who recognize their own special talent and ability to do a particular job.

There is no such thing as a key opinion leader. A key opinion leader is like a star in the night. No one can stop him/her from going where he/she is going. They are not distracted by others or the noise of the world.

A key opinion leader is very introverted. The most important thing about them is their self-confidence. No one can distract them. They don’t have the “fluff” to fill in the blanks when things go wrong. Those who are known for taking the easy way out rarely make it to the top in any industry.

A key opinion leader usually has the intelligence of a highly experienced engineer. They use their knowledge to make quick decisions that result in great results. They can analyze a problem or opportunity in the best possible way and can quickly draw the conclusion that will satisfy their conscious mind and their subconscious mind.

It takes a very strong mental fortitude to make it in this company. There are times when you need to be very wise and prudent. But they are rare. Generally those who reach the top are the ones with the guts to follow their own personal destiny. They’re leaders who take personal responsibility for their own future.

The key opinion leader may have a reputation as being so smart that no one could ever replace them. But if you ask them a question they answer with confidence, but using only the words, “I” or “me.” They don’t say, “You.” The key opinion leader knows what it takes to succeed, but they are not selfish. They realize that they are not the leader, but rather the follower. If you follow their lead, others will follow.

So, what should you do if you feel you have what it takes to become a key opinion leader? First, begin by asking yourself some questions. Why are you doing what you are doing? What can you honestly and completely get done?

Second, set yourself up as an expert in your field. Explain to anyone who will listen what you know and what you have accomplished. Let everyone know that you are the key player and no one else matters. You are the key opinion leader and you are the ones who make a difference. If you do this, others will follow.

Third, be careful how you talk to the press or the media. You don’t want to be lambasted by the press and you don’t want to appear that you are aloof or that you don’t care. Yet at the same time, you do need to be cautious and keep your integrity. If you don’t believe what you are saying, be honest and tell everyone.

Fourth, if you do need to hold events that you believe will help you build your reputation and your credibility, make sure you plan them in advance. You don’t want to have a hasty introduction and then find out afterward that it was a complete disaster. Plan ahead. This will also protect you if things go wrong.

Fifth, remember that you are not the only key opinion leader in town. There are others. Learn to manage your time more effectively. Find the balance between being busy and being productive. A key opinion leader must be productive, but he or she must also be accessible to their counterparts and the general public.

Finally, there is no substitute for experience. Even if you think you are the key opinion leader, if you haven’t built up enough experience, it doesn’t mean that you can’t rise up and become the top leader someday. The key here is to never stop learning and growing. Your competitors may learn new strategies and find new ways to get a point across. Yet no matter what happens, you must always remain relevant and up-to-date.
